Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have reportedly made a move for Chelsea forward Kai Havertz.
The Times reported earlier today (4:45pm, June 16, 2023) that Arsenal are keen on signing Kai Havertz from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
The report claimed that Arsenal were ‘set to submit an offer in excess of £55 million” for the Germany international, adding that “personal terms are not expected to be an issue”.
However, there is one major problem.
Chelsea want as much as £70 million in transfer fees for the 24-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a forward and was described as “an exciting, dynamic talent” by then Blues director Marina Granovskaia on the club’s official website in September 2020.
Arsenal reportedly value the forward at £55 million.
The Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law is now reporting on Twitter that Chelsea have turned down Arsenal’s opening bid for Havertz.
The reporter has claimed that the player himself is keen on a move to Arsenal, who remain in talks with the Blues.
Law wrote on Twitter (7:53pm, June 16, 2023): “Chelsea have turned down an opening bid from Arsenal for Kai Havertz but talks continue and player keen for move #cfc #afc.”

Could Arsenal sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea?
In out opinion, Arsenal could be able to sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
That the Gunners and the Blues are in talks despite the North London club’s opening bid being rejected suggests that both the clubs are keen for a deal to happen.
And that Havertz himself wants to join Arsenal is a big factor.
Now, of course, Arsenal will have to increase their offer, but at the same time, Chelsea could also have to lower their demands, especially if the forward himself has made up his mind to leave Stamford Bridge.
We believe that Arsenal, Chelsea and Havertz will find a solution sooner rather than later.
