According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are desperate to beat Manchester United to the signature of Benfica ace Andrija Zivkovic in the summer, as Arsene Wenger looks to instigate a much-need squad shake-up at the Emirates.
The 21-year-old winger has been in decent form for the Portuguese outfit so far this season, chalking up three goals and five assists in 23 outings in all competitions thus far.
The Mirror claim that the Gunners are desperate to sign the Serbian, but they will face stringent competition for his signature from the Red Devils in the summer.
Good signing for Arsenal?
Zivkovic is a wonderfully talented footballer, but there are huge question marks hanging over his head regarding whether he possesses the physical attributes that are required to be a success in the Premier League.
Standing at just 5ft 6in tall, the Serbia international relies on his technique and pace, and that might just not be enough in the English game, what with its robust nature.
There are, of course, smaller players who have succeeded in the Premier League, Santi Cazorla springs to mind, but the Spaniard is a total anomaly, and the future of the game seems to be going more in the direction of pace and power over technical skill.
The 21-year-old is valued at £6.3 million, according to Transfer Markt, so the Gunners might just view him as a risk worth taking.
Zivkovic would be an interesting signing for Arsenal, but perhaps one they should consider avoiding, and rather focus on acquiring players with the attributes that they currently desperately lack.
