According to Football.London, Arsenal goalkeeper Runar Runarsson is available this summer, most likely in a loan exit.
It’s suggested that the Gunners are happy for Runarsson to leave this summer, less than a year since signing him from Dijon.
Runarsson wasn’t even highly-regarded there, so it’s no great surprise that he hasn’t made much of an impact at Arsenal.
The Icelandic stopper worked with Inaki Cana at Nordsjaelland, and Cana pushed for him to be signed at Arsenal as cover for Bernd Leno following Emiliano Martinez’s exit.
Runarsson hasn’t impressed though, and has played just once since a dismal Carabao Cup showing against Manchester City in December.
With just 16 minutes of Premier League action under his belt, Runarsson now looks likely to be on the move again, with no role for him at Arsenal.
Mat Ryan could come in as second-choice stopper, and Arsenal would then leave the third-choice role to youngsters Arthur Okonkwo or Karl Hein.
Mikel Arteta praised Runarsson as ‘really humble’ In February, but it’s just abundantly clear that he isn’t going to be good enough for Arsenal.
A loan move makes sense, or Arsenal may even want to cut their losses and sell if an offer comes in.
Cana’s recommendation hasn’t quite paid off, and with Leno’s future now unclear, he will hope to have greater success with future goalkeepers as Arsenal plot a summer incoming or two.
