According to Aksam, Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in bringing Galatasaray forward Kerem Akturkoglu to the Premier League.
What’s the story?
Well, the Turkish news outlet believe Arsenal and Tottenham are set to make contact with Galatasaray at the end of the season.
Aksam add that the Gunners and Spurs face competition from Lyon, Atlético Madrid and VfL Wolfsburg in the race to sign Akturkoglu.
Galatasaray value their 23-year-old sensation at €20m (£17m), and have already rejected a bid from VfL Wolfsburg which was said to be worth €15m (£12m).
The Turkey international is enjoying a fantastic campaign for the Turkish giants.
In 44 appearances so far, Akturkoglu has scored 11 goals while also providing nine assists.
By all accounts, he seems to be a tremendous prospect.
Arsenal and Tottenham should be wary
As good as Akturkoglu looks, Mikel Arteta and Antonio Conte should have their reservations.
In our view, the Süper Lig is not comparable to the Premier League, and very few players come from that division to shine in England.
To add to that statement, it speaks volumes that players who end up struggling in the Premier League due to age or injuries, like Papiss Cisse, can go over to Turkey and be among the best players.
The same can be said of the Eredivisie, where Vincent Janssen was scoring for fun, but then became one of the most goal-shy strikers in England.
With aspirations to return to the Champions League, we feel Arsenal and Tottenham have to be shopping in more proven divisions.
