Barcelona director, Jordi Cruyff has confirmed that the club have no desire to sell Arsenal and Spurs-linked forward Memphis Depay in January, who is currently at the World Cup.

Interestingly, Sport had earlier claimed that Mikel Arteta’s side are interested in Depay but decided to hold off on making any move for him as they were set to monitor his performances in Qatar.

While the Dutchman has largely been injured during the tournament, he exhibited his class against USA in a superb all-round showing in his country’s 3-1 win.

If that display does not convince the Gunners to go all in for the £17 million-rated attacker (via Sport) amidst the recent three-month injury (via sportv) suffered by Gabriel Jesus, what will?

The same goes for Tottenham with regards to the ex-Man United star, as Antonio Conte is eyeing a new backup forward in January (via 90 Min).

With only Harry Kane putting the ball into the back of the net on a consistent basis for Spurs this season, one can understand why.

Arsenal and Tottenham target set for Barcelona stay

Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff told Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano that Arsenal and Tottenham target Memphis Depay will not leave the club in January.

“Why should we sell Depay in January if it’s difficult to sign new players because of Financial Fair Play? He’s always been a great professional.”

“He can be really helpful. Free agent in June? We will see in the next months.”

Ultimately, it seems that is likelier that Xavi’s side will let the ex-PSV hero leave in the summer as opposed to at the turn of the year.

With both Arsenal and Spurs needing reinforcements in attack to win the Premier League and secure Champions League qualification respectively, they cannot afford to be deterred by their defeat in the race to sign Depay.
