Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffside that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United will have to pay €60-65 million (£50.72-54.95m) plus add-ons for Lucas Paqueta of Lyon.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Lyon will want at least €60-65 million (£50.72-54.95m) plus add-ons for Paqueta, who has been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle in the summer transfer window.

According to a report in Media Foot last week, Arsenal and Newcastle are interested in signing the 24-year-old Brazil international midfielder this summer.

Lucas Paqueta fee amid Arsenal and Newcastle interest

Romano told CaughtOffside: “At the moment, Paqueta’s camp has denied the negotiations because so far Arsenal have not made any proposals for Lucas.

“It will be a situation to be monitored until the end of the transfer market because Paqueta would love to play in the Premier League.

“Lyon often end up selling their star players, but Paqueta won’t come cheap – his club would like at least €60-65m plus add-ons for the Brazilian.”

Could a transfer happen?

In our view, Arsenal and Newcastle United could be able to sign Lucas Paqueta if they pay the £55 million needed.

Now, we know that Lyon sell their best players for huge sums of money.

Paqueta is a Brazil international and is only 24 years of age now.

The midfielder will only improve in the coming years, and Arsenal and Newcastle could have a real gem on their hands if they sign him now.

Paqueta made 32 starts and three substitute appearances in Ligue 1 last season.

The Brazil international midfielder scored nine goals and gave six assists in those games.

The 24-year-old also scored two goals and provided one assist in nine Europa League matches for Lyon last season.
