Sheffield United will only sell Sander Berge if a massive offer arrives, with the Blades believing that the Arsenal and Liverpool target could ‘dominate’ the Championship next term, as reported by Yorkshire Live.

When the Norway international was travelling to Anfield for Champions League group-stage clash in November 2019, it is unlikely he would have been expecting to go head-to-head with Blackburn, Preston and Huddersfield in England’s second tier two years later.

But that is the reality facing Berge; Sheffield United’s £22 million record signing.

The Blades are now just weeks away from relegation after becoming the latest victims of that dreaded ‘second season syndrome’.

Although Berge continues to be linked with a move away from Bramall Lane, there is no guarantee that Sheffield United will let the former Genk enforcer go.

According to Yorkshire Live, Sheffield United are planning to ‘do a Norwich’ and bounce back at the first time of asking. Therefore, they are refusing to entertain offers for any of their key players. Unless it is simply too good to turn down, of course.

The report adds that Berge is expected to stroll the second-tier, in the manner Emi Buendia, Todd Cantwell and co have done at Carrow Road.

Sheffield United believe that Berge, who is already valued at well above £22 million, will be worth even more if he performs, week in, week out in the Championship.

This comes after EuroSport linked Aston Villa and Liverpool with the 6ft 5ins powerhouse.

The Star, meanwhile, reports that Arsenal and Tottenham are also weighing up summer bids of their own.

But Sheffield United have made their stance clear. If no one is willing to pay a substantial sum, then they would be more than happy to keep Berge for another year.
