Italian outlet CMW report that Arsenal and Liverpool are both locked in the race to sign Nordsjaelland striker Andreas Schjelderup – who has been compared to Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland. A fee of £17.5million is required.

The 18-year-old has burst onto the scene with one of Norway’s biggest clubs in Nordsjaelland. But mostly, it is his form this season that has caught the eye. Prior to this season, he had played 39 times for his current side, scoring seven.

But this season he has five goals and an assist in 10 games – whether that is up front, or from the left. Still only 18, he has two Norway Under-21 caps. Given he is the next big thing to come out of Norway, he is rated as the New Haaland.

The report claims that Liverpool and Arsenal are keeping tabs on his progress. But, they are not alone. Sevilla saw a bid of £3.5million rejected – with the Norwegian side holding out for a much bigger fee. They want £17.5million.

Sevilla remain keen, as do Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan, as well as Borussia Dortmund. He has a contract at Nordsjaelland until June 2024 – meaning next summer, he will certainly come onto the market. One to watch.

Arsenal and Liverpool in race to sign Schjelderup: The next Haaland?

Unlikely. Even though Schjelderup is clearly quite the talent, he would have to go some way to being anything like Haaland. Ultimately, hovering that tag over Schjelderup is actually quite unfair. He needs to just continue scoring goals.

What would be his best move? Liverpool have signed a number of youngsters in recent years as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring down the age of his side. Divock Origi has gone, Roberto Firmino looks set to go at the end of the season.

There would be space for Schjelderup to come in at Anfield and make an impression. But a move to Arsenal would surely benefit him greater, especially if Eddie Nketiah continues to warm the bench. He might consider a move soon.
