According to The Scottish Daily Mail (16/03, p76), Hibernian defender Josh Doig will still only cost £1.5million this summer.

It’s claimed that three Premier League clubs – Arsenal, Leeds United and Manchester City – are all interested in signing Doig this summer.

Championship and European sides are also pursuing a deal for Doig, who looks increasingly likely to leave Easter Road at the end of the season.

Doig actually signed a new deal until 2025 recently, but that seemingly won’t stop him from making a big move – most likely to England.

The most surprising factor is that this report claims Doig will only cost £1.5million; you would have expected that new deal to bolster his asking price.

The 18-year-old has impressed at left back and left wing back this season, registering one goal and three assists in 23 games for Hibs.

A move to Leeds certainly makes sense, as Marcelo Bielsa’s men must sign a new left back this summer, and they present greater first-team opportunities than Arsenal or City.

Arsenal already have Kieran Tierney, so Doig’s progress could be blocked by his compatriot, whilst it’s hard to see him becoming a first-team regular at City right now.

Loaning him back to Hibs could appeal to the two giants, but if Doig wants immediate Premier League action, Leeds represent the best option by far.
