According to BILD, Everton can now sign Schalke 04 striker Matthew Hoppe for a bargain fee, with Arsenal also interested in the forward.
What’s the story?
Well, the German news outlet believe Schalke 04 want just €8m (£6.8m) for their No.43, who enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2020/21.
90min believe Arsenal and Crystal Palace are also keen on the 20-year-old, who announced himself with a hat-trick against TSG Hoffenheim last term.
BILD claim that Schalke 04 find themselves riddled with €217m (£185m) worth of debt, and desperately need to sell players to avoid a six-point deduction in the Bundesliga 2.
Rafa Benitez, Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira face competition for Hoppe from clubs in Russia and the Netherlands, according to BILD.
The 5-cap USA international might only have scored six Bundesliga goals in total last term, but for £6.8m, surely someone will sign him.
Who is Matthew Hoppe?
As aforesaid, Hoppe surely has to be signed for £6.8m – he’s too big a talent to be ignored for that price.
The Bundesliga’s official website likened his playing style to that of Robert Lewandowski, which is very, very high praise indeed.
Hoppe also has a goal for the USA to his name, and is regarded as one of the brightest attacking talents currently playing in Europe.
The wonderkid has been described as ‘unbelievably ambitious’ and a player of ‘tremendous commitment’ by Christian Gross, who was Hoppe’s manager at Schalke 04.
He still has plenty of developing to do, but for £6.8m, the prodigy may never be this cheap again.
Hoppe is, without a doubt, worth the gamble.
