Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno is now in danger of being sold after the Gunners indicated Aaron Ramsdale is their new first-choice stopper.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Leno is now being primed for the exit at the end of the season.
We may only be a month or so into the new season, but Arsenal already considering selling Leno next summer.
Leno still has just shy of two years left on his contract. Next summer may be the right time to sell before he leaves for nothing in 2023.
Leno faces the beginning of the end at Arsenal
It’s not all that long ago that Leno was branded ‘outstanding’ by Arsenal teammate Kieran Tierney.
Signed from Bayer Leverkusen in 2018, Leno has racked up 120 appearances for Arsenal.
He’s made save after save in that time, but all without being entirely convincing.
Being benched against Norwich City on Saturday. Aaron Ramsdale has now taken his place, and it’s claimed that he will keep his place moving forward.
The German now faces sitting on the bench this season. It’s easy to see why Leno and Arsenal would feel that next summer is a good time to break up.
Edu decision has signposted Leno exit
Arsenal needed another goalkeeper this summer, but Edu spent more than many expected by signing Ramsdale.
That immediately seemed like the indication that Leno would be leaving in the near future.
Few really expected Ramsdale to take Leno’s spot inside a month.
Maybe Leno can get back into the Arsenal team, but it looks unlikely.
Arsenal were seemingly preparing themselves for Leno’s eventual exit when they spent big on Ramsdale.
That process now appears to have been ramped up, and Leno will surely be playing somewhere else next season.
