There’s something very Arsenal about what Mikel Arteta and Edu have reportedly done.

The Gunners are enduring a frustrating January transfer window.

Speculation about Arthur Melo coming to Arsenal is slowing down alarmingly, having looked certain to arrive in North London on loan from Juventus at one point this month.

And Bruno Guimarares, well that isn’t going to happen either.

The Brazilian midfielder is reportedly on the brink of joining Newcastle United, which will upset Arsenal because Goal claimed on Wednesday that the Emirates Stadium outfit and Lyon had been in talks since last summer.

So yeah, January is proving a tough nut to crack for Arteta and Edu.

Which is why it’s horribly ironic that the duo have reportedly just secured Arsenal’s first signing of the summer window.

Matt Turner, the USA international, is heavily linked with a move to the North Londoners.

And ESPN reported on Thursday that Arsenal have agreed to pay New England Revolution a total transfer fee of around £7.4 million to sign the 27-year-old goalkeeper – only £4.4 million up front – who has agreed personal terms already.

However, the report adds that Turner won’t be coming until the summer window.

Exciting?

Well, kind of.

Every addition is an interesting one, but some are undoubtedly more exciting than others and honestly, Arteta and Edu need more.

Arsenal supporters will be livid if no signings are made between now and Monday’s deadline – and to be frank, the promise of Turner arriving in six months isn’t going to appease the fanbase.

Turner simply isn’t a big enough profile to do that and therefore, the fans will be out for blood if their only January signing is actually, well, a summer one.
