Cedric Soares was praised for showcasing his leadership skills during Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, according to a report.
Football London claims that the 29-year-old was seen ‘instructing’ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the tunnel at half-time.
Cedric didn’t actually start the game for Arsenal, but with Kieran Tierney going off injured just before the break, his versatility was brought into the fold.
It is said that Cedric was telling Aubameyang what to do on the left-hand side, as the duo were preparing to link up with one another after Tierney’s substitution.
Before Cedric came onto the pitch, Aubameyang was struggling and that continued after the break.
Aubameyang is the one with the armband this season, but he hasn’t been able to match last season’s performances and looks like the shadow of the player that was searching for the Golden Boot in 2019/20.
It is a problematic situation for Arsenal because Aubameyang is an experienced player, yet the youngsters are performing better and it could be argued that someone like Gabriel Martinelli should play ahead of him.
Given that Arsenal produced such an abject performance over the weekend, it will be interesting to see if Mikel Arteta makes some ruthless changes for their Europa League showdown on Thursday.
