Rangers are already looking to bring new signings to Ibrox.

Scott Arfield of Burnley is tackled during the Premier League match between Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur at Turf Moor on December 23, 2017 in Burnley, England.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers do want both Scott Arfield and James McArthur, but the former is much more likely to join than the latter.

The Gers are looking to secure second place in the Scottish Premiership, and whilst European football would give them a boost in the transfer market, director of football Mark Allen is already targeting players.

Burnley’s Scott Arfield and Crystal Palace’s James McArthur have both emerged as targets in the last 48 hours, and can be signed for free given that they’re out of contract this summer.

However, the Daily Record report that whilst both are targets, Arfield is far more likely to join Rangers than McArthur, with a deal already thought to be close.

James McArthur of Crystal Palace reacts during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United at Selhurst Park on March 5, 2018 in London, England.

The Canadian international, 29, will be making a return to Scotland having been born there before switching his allegiance, and will be trading in Premier League football for a move to Ibrox.

Arfield will certainly boost the Rangers midfield, and adding another proven performer in McArthur would give the Gers another quality signing in the middle of the park.

A boyhood Rangers fan, McArthur may well be tempted to make the move to Ibrox, but with English clubs no doubt interested too, it’s no great surprise that Rangers are far from guaranteed of signing him.
