The Swansea City defender is said to have been installed as a top target for Leeds United this summer.

A Yorkshire Evening Post report appears to have confirmed the fears of some Leeds United supporters regarding Kyle Bartley.

Several Whites fans last month expressed their concern that Bartley – the Swansea City defender who starred while on loan at Elland Road the season before last – would not feature in the plans of new head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

And according to the YEP they were bang on.

The newspaper claims Bartley was installed as a top target by Leeds prior to the Argentine’s arrival, and adds that the Whites ‘made overtures to both Swansea and the player’ in the early stages of the summer transfer window.

It goes on to state, however, that contact from Leeds ‘dwindled’ in June and United ‘have not be actively pushing for a deal’ since Bielsa joined.

Bartley – who is close friends with Leeds defender Luke Ayling, his former Arsenal teammate – is said to have made Swansea ‘aware of his desire’ to move to Elland Road on a permanent basis.

But the 27-year-old is looking increasingly likely to become a West Bromwich Albion player instead, with the Baggies ‘stepping up their efforts’ to sign him, according to the YEP.
