Could Antonio Valencia join Sheffield United after 10 years at Premier League giants Manchester United?

The agents of former Manchester United flyer Antonio Valencia are keen to set up talks with Sheffield United with the Ecuadorian potentially set to extend his long Premier League career, as reported by The Star.

Despite making almost 350 appearances at Manchester United, winning nine trophies including two Premier League titles, it seems that interest is limited in a man who will become a free agent at the end of this month.

Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that Valencia, now 33, missed most of last season through injury.

But a shock move to Bramall Lane does appear to be on the cards, however, with Terra Deportes claiming recently that Sheffield United had ‘submitted a proposal’ for the former Wigan Athletic star.

And The Star has now provided further information, claiming that the South American’s agents are attempting to set up a meeting between Valencia and Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder.

Considering that Sheffield United’s squad is hardly chock-full of top flight experience, The Blades could do worse than seizing their chance to sign a player whose athleticism and versatility would make him a perfect candidate to start on the right in Wilder’s 3-5-2 system.
