West Ham United have been linked with Gabriel Barbosa.
According to Calciomercato, Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte has communicated to the club that he will give the green light to selling Gabriel Barbosa.
Inter appeared to have landed a coup in 2016 when they signed Barbosa from Santos, beating a host of European rivals to his signature – but he’s been something of a flop in Milan.
After just one goal in 10 games for Inter, he was sent on loan to Benfica, Santos and more recently Flamengo, where he has been a goal machine.
Barbosa – known back in Brazil as ‘Gabigol’ – has notched 31 goals in 41 games for Flamengo, including 16 goals in 17 league games as the 23-year-old rebuilds his reputation.
FC Inter News report that West Ham are now keen to sign Barbosa, and they may be given encouragement about a deal from Inter boss Conte.
It’s claimed that Conte has already decided that he doesn’t want to reintegrate Barbosa back into his team when his loan deal ends in December, and has told the Inter board that he’ll green light a sale.
Conte doesn’t want to change his squad mid-season, and that means Barbosa is likely to be moved on, meaning West Ham could have a real shot at a deal.
Adding a quick and skilful attacker to aid Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti could make some sense, and West Ham could land a real coup if they can finally be the ones to get Barbosa firing in Europe.
