It looks like Everton are about to make their first proper signing of the summer so far.

It’s been a pretty quiet transfer window for the Toffees, who have only added 19-year-old defender Niels Nkounkou to the squad following a Bosman move.

But if rumours are to be believed, things are set to get a lot more exciting.

According to The Daily Mail, Everton could announce a £22 million deal for Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure at some point today.

The report claims that the 27-year-old will sign a contract until 2024 with the Goodison Park club, having completed a medical with Carlo Ancelotti’s side on Thursday.

By virtue of the fact that the Merseyside outfit finished 12th in the Premier League last season, you could justifiably say that they’re in dire need of reinforcements.

And although Doucoure is a good way in which to kick off the summer spending, much more is needed.

To be fair, there is plenty of speculation about Everton also signing James Rodriguez, which blows the Frenchman out of the water in regards to profile.

Ancelotti could have a much better midfield at his disposal next term, but there’s still other areas that desperately need to be addressed and, hopefully for their sake, they are addressed.
