The Argentina international struggled in his first Premier League campaign but doesn’t intend to leave this summer.
Big things were expected in Manchester upon Angel Di Maria’s £60 million arrival from Real Madrid.
The tricky winger had been a strong performer during his time in Spain and many Los Blancos fans were upset with his departure, his first campaign at United has been fraught with difficulty however.
After a great start, performance levels began to decline and Di Maria found himself out of favour with Louis van Gaal. The second half of the season saw Ashley Young overtake him in the pecking order; an unthinkable scenario just a few months prior.
Di Maria, however, is determined to prove his worth next season at Old Trafford.
“I have just finished my first season playing for Manchester United,” Di Maria is quoted as saying in The Sun. “Now I will play the Copa America and then I will move back to Manchester for next season and do my best there.”
He suggested adaptation to his new environment was the cause of his drop in form:
“It was a hard season for me. I think it was hard because it was another country and another league, and this league is harder than the Spanish one.
“So, I couldn’t adapt myself as I wanted to. La Liga and the Premier League are completely different. The Premier League is physically stronger. It was not easy at all and I ended playing few minutes.”
United fans will be encouraged by Di Maria’s words after strong links of a move to PSG surfaced in recent weeks from sources such as TalkSPORT.
On his day, he is one of the deadliest attackers in the Premier League and van Gaal will be hopeful he can rediscover the form that prompted United to shell out a British transfer record fee to secure his services.
