Andy Lonergan is all set to join Middlesbrough, according to reports, following his exit from Leeds United earlier this summer.

Leeds fans have got used to seeing former Middlesbrough players arrive at their club in recent times. Former Boro Director of Football Victor Orta has overseen five signings during the current window and four have previously played for the Riverside Stadium outfit, including Patrick Bamford who has arrived at Elland Road directly from their Championship rivals.
However, it appears that Tony Pulis is looking at turning the tables somewhat. Teeside Gazette reports that the Boro boss is looking to add more depth between the sticks and is targeting Lonergan, who is available on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old endured a difficult second spell with Leeds. He enjoyed a brief run as number one before the turn of the year, but made a handful of costly mistakes and was replaced by Felix Wiedwald after just seven games as first-choice.

One of those appearances came in a 2-1 win against Boro at Elland Road. It seems unlikely that the former Wolves ace will be considered for the number one spot in Pulis’ side, but he will be hoping to provide cover to Darren Randolph, and battle Dimi Konstantopoulos for the understudy role.
Middlesbrough kick off their Championship campaign with a tricky trip away to Millwall this weekend, while Lonergan’s first return to Leeds – should he sign – could come when Boro travel to Elland Road in the final game of the month.
