Andy Carroll’s move back to Newcastle United appears close.

According to the Daily Mail (11:05), striker Andy Carroll is now likely to join Newcastle United, and is desperate to return to St James’ Park.
The Magpies have brought in one centre forward this summer by landing Joelinton, and Steve Bruce has suggested he’s happy with his striking options – which include Yoshinori Muto and Dwight Gayle.
However, Newcastle could do with another natural target man, and Bruce has been considering a move for Carroll over the last two or three weeks.
Now, it’s claimed that Carroll’s move to Newcastle is more likely to happen than not, and he’s desperate to make an emotional return to the club.
Carroll, 30, came up through the Newcastle ranks and supported the club as a boy, before 30 goals in his final 62 games for the club resulted in a shock January 2011 move to Liverpool.
More than eight years on, Carroll is available on a free transfer after his West Ham contract expired, and Newcastle are now on the verge of bringing him back to Tyneside.

Joelinton has potential, but the Brazilian is young and has no Premier League experience, so landing a veteran like Carroll is a smart move from Bruce and co.
Injury concerns are the big problem with Carroll, but he seems desperate to make his return and make amends for leaving, and the deal doesn’t even have to be done by today’s deadline given that he’s out of contract.
