Crystal Palace winger was just a substitute at the weekend. Will Newcastle make their move?

Andros Townsend regrets leaving Newcastle United for Crystal Palace this summer, The Guardian report.

Townsend was linked with a return back to Newcastle last weekend by The Mail, with the Toon claimed to be considering a move to bring back the winger.

Townsend netted four goals for Newcastle between late January and May last season despite their relegation, and has scored only once for Crystal Palace since taking a shortcut back to the Premier League in the summer.

The Guardian report the 25-year-old is keen on a return back to the Championship side, who are currently in the automatic promotion places.

Palace meanwhile are battling relegation from the Premier League, and are yet to win a match since Sam Allardyce replaced Alan Pardew a month ago.

Townsend was dropped for the weekend defeat to Everton, coming off the bench for the final two minutes after Palace had conceded the winner.

The Guardian‘s report claims Newcastle are pushing for a loan deal, to cancel out money Palace still owe them from the deal which is due to be paid, with a view to a permanent switch in the summer. Townsend’s desire to move is a big piece in the jigsaw in terms of helping the deal along.
