Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly beat three big Italian teams to sign Danish goalkeeper Sondergaard in January
It’s fair to say Andreas Sondergaard is not the most high-profile signing Wolverhampton Wanderers have made during the Fosun regime. But he could one day prove to be one of the most astute.
According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolves signed the little-known 17-year-old goalkeeper in January, beating a trio of high-profile Italian teams to his signature by paying Danish outfit Odense BK a fee of £400,000.
And though Sondergaard hasn’t been seen at senior level, it seems that the teenage shot-stopper is making a big impact behind the scenes.
At the age of just 17, the Dane has established himself as Wolves’ number one at Under 23 level and has already kept three clean sheets in seven Premier League 2 games.
This is after he spent the pre-season tour with Wolves’ in July and, according to the Birmingham Mail, Sondergaard really made an excellent impression. Goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa in particular is understood to be a big fan.
Now, with Rui Patricio and John Ruddy ahead of him in the pecking order, don’t expect to see Sondergaard feature for the first-team any time soon. But he is another very promising talent in a Wolves team who are building for the future as well as the present.
