Andre Schurrle is to become the first playing casualty of Fulham’s relegation from the Premier League, according to The Sun.
Fulham’s return to the Championship was confirmed by Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat at Watford, which occurred less than a year since the Cottagers gained promotion via the play-offs.
Schurrle was one of the most high-profile players to arrive during the heavy summer recruitment drive which followed, albeit on a two-year loan from Borussia Dortmund.
But it is claimed that Fulham inserted a break clause allowing them to terminate the World Cup winner’s deal a year early should they go down – saving them £2.5 million in wages.
The future of Ryan Sessegnon is also questioned within The Sun’s report.
Sessegnon, who is also a winger, will enter the final year of his Craven Cottage contract this summer.
Schurrle has scored six goals in 24 games for Fulham, but hasn’t started any of their last seven games after suffering from illness.
