According to the Daily Star, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is growing frustrated with the club’s summer transfer activity.

It’s claimed that Ancelotti picked out defender Gabriel Magalhaes and midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as key targets, having admired them for some time.

However, Hojbjerg has signed for Tottenham Hotspur and Gabriel looks set for a move to North London too, joining Arsenal.

Ancelotti is described as being ‘infuriated’ that Everton have missed out on both players, with the Italian desperate for new additions.

The report claims that there are fears over Ancelotti’s future unless Everton can come up with some incoming business.

It seems unlikely that Ancelotti would walk away inside a year at Goodison Park, but he understandably wants some backing.

Everton were largely unimpressive after lockdown, and were clearly in need of a centre back and a central midfielder, with Gabriel and Hojbjerg identified to solve those problem areas.

Instead, they’ve headed to Premier League rivals. That must be galling for Ancelotti, who was brought in to really take Everton forward – but he needs Marcel Brands and co to do their part.
