Well, that was fun whilst it lasted, but it seems as though Arsenal forward, Emile Smith Rowe, will pen down a new contract at the Emirates after all that Aston Villa talk.
Birmingham Live claim that the Arsenal academy product will sign a new five-year contract, but Villa are still in the hunt for a new number 10.
It is said that Dean Smith could now ‘step-up’ his interest in Burnley’s wide man, Dwight McNeil, who are demanding upward of £40 million for his talents.
After securing the signature of Emi Buendia this summer, it seems as though those in the Villa Park boardroom aren’t satisfied with the attacking talents they have on their books.
Even at this moment in time, Jack Grealish, Ollie Watkins, Buendia, Anwar El Ghazi, Bertrand Traore and Trezeguet are healthy and threatening options.
But Smith clearly feels that need that Villa require more ingredients in their European-chasing mixer.
McNeil has stood out in a defensive-minded Burnley team over the years, with his ability to cut inside, carry the ball from deep and produce a brilliant pin-point cross.
But paying potentially £40 million for his talents might just prove to be off-putting for those in B6.
Either way, after another season of progression last term, Villa are revving up their engine once as they aim to secure European football for next season.
