According to the Daily Mail, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to hand more first-team football to young striker Jack Aitchison next season.

The Bhoys have seen Moussa Dembele thrive with 32 goals in 48 games this season, whilst backup Leigh Griffiths has found the net 14 times in 29 games this term.

However, Dembele’s exploits have seen him trigger major interest, and Griffiths may not be content with another season of playing second-fiddle to the French striker.

The Daily Mail claim that, whilst Celtic may have to sell and replace the in-demand Dembele this summer, manager Brendan Rodgers is allegedly keen to develop teenage attacker Jack Aitchison.

Aitchison, 17, has been on the books with Celtic since 2000, and scored on his first-team debut with a goal against Motherwell on the final day of last season.

The forward has made just two first-team appearances this season, but Rodgers is believed to be keen on giving him more playing time next season, with the intention of developing him into the Bhoys’ next homegrown star.

The likes of Kieran Tierney, Eoghan O’Connell and Callum McGregor have risen through the ranks in recent years, and the Bhoys will be hoping to see Aitchison follow suit under Rodgers.

Rodgers helped develop the likes of Joe Allen and Raheem Sterling during his time at Swansea City and Liverpool, and Aitchison will now get the chance to impress – seemingly whether Dembele leaves or not.
