It seems that Arsenal’s reported quest to sign Pau Torres from Unai Emery’s Villarreal will not be easy.
Sport reported in April that Arsenal are among the clubs who are interested in signing central defender Torres from Villarreal in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old is one of the better centre-backs in La Liga who helped Villarreal win the Europa League this past season.
Former Arsenal manager Emery, now in charge of Villarreal, described the Spain international central defender as “an amazing player” in Football.London in January 2021.
David Luiz is leaving Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta could be looking at Torres as a potential replacement.
Now, William Saliba will be back from his loan spell and the Gunners are well stocked in central defence.

However, a player like Torres would make the Gunners better, and he could form a strong partnership with Gabriel at the heart of the defence.
However, a report in The Athletic has claimed that Torres would prefer to wait for a bid from Real Madrid or Barcelona to moving elsewhere.
The 24-year-old is part of the Spain squad for the Euro 2020 finals, and he is not going to make any decision before the competition ends.
Manchester United are interested in the Spaniard, but he would prefer to wait for an offer from Madrid or Barcelona, according to the report.
Both Madrid and Barcelona are interested in Torres, according to Sport, and with United also reportedly keen on the defender, it is hard to see why he would choose Arsenal, who will not play in the Champions League next season or challenge for the Premier League title.
Meanwhile, Voetbal 24 has claimed that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has given a positive feedback to the Gunners about their summer target and Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.
