Newcastle United’s takeover appears to be dead in the water.
According to a report from The Telegraph, Amanda Staveley has yet to contact Mike Ashley in 2018 about a new bid to buy Newcastle United.
Back in October, Ashley announced that he was putting the club up for sale, with the intention of bringing his tumultuous time at St. James’ Park to an end.
Amanda Staveley of the PCP Capital Partners stepped forward with three bids for the Magpies, but couldn’t reach Ashley’s £300million asking price as talks broke down in December.
Now, it’s claimed that Staveley hasn’t even been in contact with Ashley in 2018, suggesting that whilst she has admitted that she still wants to buy the club, the deal may be dead in the water.

Newcastle supporters have been desperate for Ashley to leave the club in recent years, having watched him oversee two relegations to the Championship, a host of bizarre managerial decisions and a lack of spending.
Staveley was seen as the route back to prosperity for Newcastle, but with Ashley’s asking price so far beyond her, Magpies fans may have seen their dream slip away.
The breakdown in talks ultimately meant that Rafael Benitez was restricted to three loan deals in January, as he was able to bring in Kenedy, Islam Slimani and Martin Dubravka until the end of the season.
Newcastle fans will be praying that a takeover will be done soon, in order to keep Benitez at the club, but they may need a new saviour after Staveley seemingly backed away from a deal.
