Sunderland were previously only said to be considering Aitor Karanka and Paul Heckingbottom.

It has been suggested that McCoist would be interested in taking over at the Stadium of Light, as the 55-year-old looks to go back into management.
McCoist has been out of work since his dismissal from Rangers back in 2014.
The former Scottish international is not thought to be put off by the size of the task of Sunderland, though, and he has supporters on the board.

McCoist used to play for Sunderland, and there are those that feel that the former Black Cats player could be the right man to take the club forward.
Aitor Karanka and Paul Heckingbottom have also been among the front runners at Sunderland since the Wearsiders sacked Simon Grayson, and nothing has changed on that matter.
Karanka and Heckingbottom are both still on Sunderland’s wishlist, but persuading either of the pair to join could be difficult.

Sunderland are currently sat at the bottom of the Championship table, after what has been a highly disappointing campaign to date.
And it seems that McCoist’s chances of getting the Sunderland job are growing by the day, as the North East side continue to assess their options.
