According to The Athletic, Sam Allardyce is keen to bring Mamadou Sakho to West Brom, a player who he signed for Crystal Palace in 2017.
The Athletic state that the former Liverpool man is currently out of favour at Selhurst Park due to a clash with Roy Hodgson.
However, a ‘sizeable’ loan fee would be required, as well as a commitment to picking up most of the centre-back’s six-figure weekly wages.
Nearly three years ago, the ex-England manager signed the France international on loan for the Eagles.
After a successful time under Allardyce, the south Londoners eventually signed Sakho for £26 million the following summer.
Before the former Paris Saint-Germain captain moved to SE25 permanently, Tony Pulis wanted him at the Hawthorns according to the BBC.
However, the 30-year-old moved to Crystal Palace, where he has made 74 appearances throughout some injury-hit campaigns.
Before Sakho and ex-Baggies boss Hodgson clashed, the 73-year-old called the defender ‘incredible’ after a Carabao Cup defeat to Bournemouth.
As quoted by FourFourTwo, Hodgson said: ‘He played very little football in the last season. But he was on the pitch for a long time (against Bournemouth) after doing two training sessions, which is quite incredible.’
It may be a risky signing given the finances involved, as well as Sakho’s fitness issues.
Having said that, if there’s anywhere Allardyce needs to spend big on, it’s his backline.
West Brom have conceded the most goals in the Premier League this season, conceding 35 times in just 16 games.
