Windass has never played in the Premier League and, having scored just six times in 29 Championship matches for Wednesday, there are doubts about whether he could make the step up for a side already battling against the drop.
West Brom’s squad is full of players who shone in the second tier but have found the step up difficult to manage.
Windass, an attacking midfielder who can also play up front, would undoubtedly arrive amid plenty of scrutiny.
