Glasgow Rangers made Kyle Lafferty one of their final signings in a busy window at Ibrox.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (02/09; page 59), Rangers winning the race to sign Kyle Lafferty during the summer left Alex Neil miffed as he looked to go head to head with the Gers for the striker’s signature.

Lafferty returned to Ibrox during the latter stages of the window as Steven Gerrard looked to address the lack of forward options within his ranks with only Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq available to the Englishman in the opening weeks of the season.

But it appears that the Northern Ireland international could have potentially ended up elsewhere before the deadline. The Sun on Sunday (02/09; page 59) reports that Preston North End looked to sign the 30-year-old, but not compete with Rangers on the financial aspects of the deal.

Apparently, the inability to sign Lafferty left Lilywhites boss Neil miffed as the then-Hearts man ended up heading to Rangers for a second spell with the Gers.

It looks as though Rangers getting Lafferty could go down as an excellent piece of business from the Light Blues. The striker marked his second Scottish Premiership debut for the club with a superb brace against Motherwell, and he will be looking to get back on the scoresheet following the international break after a tough game against Celtic on Sunday.

Rangers supporters will certainly be hoping that Lafferty shows the kind of form while he is back with the club that leaves Neil to continually rue the fact that Preston missed out.
