Report: Albert Adomah close to earning new Aston Villa contract

Albert Adomah appeared to be edging towards leaving Aston Villa, but Dean Smith’s arrival appears to have changed things for the winger.

According to a report from the Sunday People (02/12; page 47), Albert Adomah is set to be handed a new Aston Villa contract having previously been much closer to the exit.

Adomah’s time with Villa has been fairly turbulent. He was superb for much of last season as the Villans came desperately close to securing promotion out of the Championship. But it appeared that the play-off final could end up being one of his final appearances for the club.

The Sunday People (02/12; page 47) reports that the 30-year-old did not enjoy the best relationship with Steve Bruce and came close to leaving the club as he struggled for game-time early on in the campaign.

However, he has been much more involved under Dean Smith and looked to be edging back towards the form that made him so influential last season. He provided two assists in the win over Birmingham City before coming off injured in the recent derby.

And while he has not featured against Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough, the Sunday People reports that he is set to be handed a new contract at Villa Park.

It is possible that there will be some mixed feelings about Adomah getting a new deal. Transfermarkt shows that his current contract expires at the end of next season.

So given that he will be 32 by then – and Villa will be hoping to be in the Premier League by that stage – some may feel that handing him a new contract may not be the best idea.

However, after looking much more dangerous in recent weeks, extending his deal may be a good way for everyone to put the events of the last few months behind them.
