Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic is reportedly wanted by Alaves.

Jozo Simunovic of Celtic reacts after missing a chance during the Ladbrokes Premiership match between St Johnstone and Celtic at McDiarmid Park on February 3, 2019 in Perth, United Kingdom.

According to The Scottish Sun, Alaves want to land Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic in a deal worth just £4million this summer.

Celtic have already lost contract rebel Dedryck Boyata, as he has agreed to sign for Hertha Berlin on a free transfer when his deal expires next month.

The Bhoys will also see loanee Filip Benkovic head back to Leicester City, meaning Celtic will be two centre backs down – and another could be going too.

The Scottish Sun claim that Alaves have identified Simunovic as a key target for this summer, with concerns about the future of their star defender Guillermo Maripan.

Simunovic, 24, has endured an injury-hit spell at Parkhead since signing from Dinamo Zagreb as Virgil van Dijk’s replacement in 2015, but has been in great form of late.

In fact, Neil Lennon even called the Croatian defender ‘dynamite’ in a recent interview with Celtic TV, meaning he may well have been in line to be a key player next season.

A move to La Liga may be tempting, but with two years left on his contract, it would be a shock to see Celtic let him go for just £4million, as they’re under little pressure to sell and can ill-afford to lose another centre back.
