Report: Ajax’s David Neres emerges as Tottenham’s Plan B if Malcom deal falls through

Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a number of Brazilian attacking talents.

According to Goal, Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Ajax talent David Neres if they can’t get a deal for Bordeaux’s Malcom over the line this month.

Spurs were left frustrated on Sunday afternoon as they could only draw 1-1 with Southampton, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men struggling for creativity without Christian Eriksen in the side.

That has exacerbated the need for another attacking midfielder, and Pochettino appears to be pressing ahead with plans to bring in a player to boost his attack.

UOL Esporte in Brazil reported on Friday that Spurs are pressing ahead with a move for Bordeaux star Malcom, after his representatives allegedly met with Tottenham boss Pochettino about a move.

The 20-year-old Brazilian has starred this term, grabbing seven goals and five assists in 21 Ligue 1 games, and Spurs are seemingly hoping to secure a deal worth up to £44million this month.

Now, Goal report that Tottenham are indeed hoping to sign Malcom, but have earmarked Ajax star David Neres as a potential Plan B should a move for Malcom fall through before next week’s transfer deadline.

Neres, 20, joined Ajax from Sao Paulo earlier this year, and has starred this season with eight goals and nine assists in just 17 Eredivisie appearances, with his displays seemingly attracting Pochettino’s interest.

Also a right-sided Brazilian ace with a great left foot, it’s no surprise that Neres is being viewed as an alternative to Malcom – and whilst Spurs will have to dig deep financially, they will hope to have at least one of them on board by next week.
