According to The Telegraph, Arsenal ace Ainsley Maitland-Niles will use his England hopes to decide his future.
It’s claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to return with a new bid for Maitland-Niles, having failed to strike a deal in August.
Nuno Espirito Santo allegedly still wants Maitland-Niles to be the man to replace Matt Doherty, following his move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Maitland-Niles will make his decision based on playing time, as he wants to stay in the England squad having broken in earlier this month.
That’s important as Maitland-Niles did in fact start for Arsenal in their 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, playing as the left-wing back for Mikel Arteta.
That was partly by circumstance though; a number of defensive injuries meant Kieran Tierney played as a left-sided centre back, freeing Maitland-Niles to play at left-wing back.
23-year-old Maitland-Niles will now need assurances over his playing time moving forward, as he won’t want to find himself on the bench after the transfer window closes.
Wolves would guarantee him playing time in place of Doherty, so it’s now up to Arsenal to convince their homegrown talent that he should stay put.
