According to The Mirror, Ainsley Maitland-Niles will hold talks with boss Mikel Arteta over the next week in order to thrash out his future.

It’s claimed Maitland-Niles has impressed in training, as well as in friendlies with Charlton and Brentford. That may just tempt Arteta into using him more once the Premier League resumes today.

Arteta allegedly sees Maitland-Niles as a real option in midfield. He has previously been utilised as a right back or right wing back, but could now operate in midfield.

The 22-year-old will now hold talks with Arteta over the next week to discuss his situation. Both his long-term future and his role in the squad will be up for discussion.

Arteta is allegedly confident that Maitland-Niles has a future at the club, but he is still likely to miss out on a starting role against Manchester City tonight.

Over the weekend, The Sun claimed that Arsenal are prepared to axe Maitland-Niles. A £20million asking price was claimed to be on his head, as the Gunners look to raise funds.

However, having impressed in training, it now seems that Maitland-Niles could stay. Much will depend on what he wants too, but his outlook looks a little more promising than it did a few weeks ago.
