Leeds United have reportedly failed with a move for Agustin Rogel.
The agent of Nacional defender Agustin Rogel has told Referi in Uruguay that a move to Leeds United has been rejected.
Rogel, 20, has come up through the ranks with Nacional but has been frozen out due to his refusal commit his future to the club and sign a new contract.
The centre back will become a free agent this summer as his contract expires, and a move looks to be inevitable given his refusal to stay with the Uruguayan side.
Clubs around Europe may be taking a look at Rogel given that he has made 18 appearances for Uruguay’s Under-20’s, scoring one goal, with some maybe hoping that he can emulate the likes of Diego Godin or Jose Luis Gimenez.
Now, Rogel’s agent has discussed the situation, and has told Referi that Leeds United made an offer to land the defender, but he didn’t want to make the move.
Ariel Krasouski is quoted as saying that Leeds wanted to loan Rogel out in order to get him a work permit before bringing him back to Elland Road, and whilst they offered him ‘important money’, Rogel and his family spurned the switch.
In fact, it’s even noted that Rogel could yet quit football to continue studying medicine, unless he gets an offer to play regularly having been left on the sidelines at Nacional – and it remains to be seen whether Leeds return in what is a bizarre saga for the defender.
