The transfer of a rumoured Southampton, Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion target ‘could be near’, according to reports.

Southampton, Sheffield United and Brighton have all been linked with moves for the Almeria striker Darwin Nunez in the summer transfer window.

But it is in Portugal with Benfica that the career of Nunez looks set to continue, claims La Voz De Almeria.

The Uruguayan’s representative, Edgardo Lasalvia, is said to be travelling to Lisbon this weekend ‘with the intention of advancing (…) negotiations after almost two weeks of hard work’.

The website adds that Benfica have ‘come charging’ for Nunez, whose fate appears to be with them.

And it is suggested that the Eagles could throw in a couple of their players, Lema and Diogo Gonçalves, to lower the cost of the deal.

Almeria are looking for €20m (around £18m) to part with Nunez, claims Diario Record.

The Spanish team have already turned down offers from Southampton, Brighton and Wolfsburg, as well as Benfica, who are all ‘ready to return’ with ‘new proposals’ according to Calciomercato. But it remains to be seen if the trio, or Sheffield United, will now challenge Benfica – assuming La Voz’s report is accurate.
