West Ham were linked Genoa defender Izzo earlier this month.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his official website that Serie A side Sassuolo have spoken to Genoa defender Armando Izzo’s agent about a move – just days after West Ham’s reported interest.

It is claimed that Hammers’ chiefs met with the representatives of the Genoa defender, who managed just 16 Serie A appearances last season after suffering a knee injury midway through the campaign.

However, the Hammers now face huge competition in pursuit of the Italian defender, after it wad claimed Sassuolo have joined the race to sign the former Napoli and Avellino star.

West Ham have been after a centre-back for much of the transfer window and have spent big on Issa Diop, luring the young Frenchman to the London Stadium from French side Toulouse.
But the Hammers could still be in the market for another central defender as Declan Rice’s future remains in doubt following a contract offer that was considered derisory by the Ireland international.
