According to Calciomercato, Jorge Mendes has failed in his attempts to bring Rafael Leao to Everton in a swap deal with James Rodriguez.
What’s the story?
Well, it was recently said that the super agent would try to bring Leao to Goodison Park, and send Rodriguez to AC Milan.
However, Calciomercato are now claiming that the 22-year-old isn’t keen on a move to Everton.
Leao – who has been likened to Kylian Mbappe – would prefer a move to Borussia Dortmund rather than working with Rafa Benitez on Merseyside.
Interestingly, Calciomercato add that Leao and AC Milan have set a deadline to sort the forward’s future out.
Both parties will ‘retire’ on July 8th, and focus on the 2021/22 campaign.
James Rodriguez could be key

While it’s a bit of a shame to hear that Everton could soon lose Rodriguez, he is a fantastic bargaining chip for Marcel Brands to have at his disposal.
The Colombian is a World Cup Golden Boot winner.
He also has experience of playing at the highest level for Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
In that respect, most clubs across Europe would surely be interested in having the South American, if they can afford him that is.

If Mendes is viewing him as a potential swap token, it could help Everton land other targets by offering Rodriguez as a sweetener.
Only time will tell what happens to the ex-Monaco man.
However, he could certainly prove to be useful in the market this summer.
