It’s no secret Arsenal are trying hard to complete the signing of Houssem Aouar from Lyon. The Frenchman is Mikel Arteta’s top target in this window and talks between the clubs are ongoing (ESPN).

The Gunners have tabled two bids for Aouar, opening with a £32.9 million offer and raising it to £34.7 million (RMC Sport).

Lyon turned down both bids (RMC Sport) but there has been optimism in and around the club that a deal could be completed soon.

However, Arsenal could now miss out even if they return with a better bid. RMC Sport claims Italian champions Juventus have entered the race to sign Aouar before the window closes next week.

Juve contacted Lyon on Monday to enquire about a transfer and the report claims they are serious contenders for his signature.

Huge blow for Arsenal?

That could prove a massive blow for Arsenal. Until now, the Gunners had been the only team in the race for Aouar, but Juventus’ reported interest could spoil the party for Arteta for more than one reason.

Juventus are favourites to win the league every season. They can also offer Champions League football every year with a chance of winning Europe’s elite competition.

Aouar will also get the opportunity to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, a dream for any playmaker. If Juventus’ interest is serious, they are likely to be favourites for his signature. However, Arsenal aren’t out of the running just yet.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas claimed this week that if Aouar was to leave, a deal would have to be completed by Friday (Telefoot via Goal). As Arsenal are already in talks they should have an edge – but they will have to move quickly to beat Juventus to his signature.
