Manchester City are eager to hand a new contract to Phil Foden after John Stones signed fresh terms with the club.
According to Goal, the Premier League champions view Foden as a key player for the long term, and as such want the winger to sign a new contract to reflect that.
Foden established himself as a vital member of the first team last season as the attacker was crucial in City’s league title win and run to the UEFA Champions League final.
City are also keen to tie Raheem Sterling and Ederson to new long-term contracts. The English superstar has two years left on his current deal whilst the Brazilian keeper’s contract has a staggering four years remaining.
Moreover, with Stones committing his future, Pep Guardiola seems keen to keep the British core of players at City together. And signing Foden to new terms would be key to this objective.
Tying Foden down to new contract is smart business from City
The nine-time England international is one of the Premier League’s brightest prospects. And since breaking into the first team, Foden has impressed with his incredible feats on the pitch.

Indeed, Pep Guardiola compared Foden to Lionel Messi early on his City career as per the Daily Mail.
And whilst the Stockport-born attacker might not reach the heights of the 34-year-old footballing legend, the City star has proven to be a quality player from the Manchester side’s academy.
Foden is just at the beginning of his time in the first team with City. But based on his stats and performances from last season, the club are making a very smart decision tying the youngster down to new terms for the future.
