According to The Sun, Aston Villa are lining up a possible January move to sign Koln striker Jhon Cordoba – who hit the headlines last month with a stunning Europa League goal against Arsenal.
Villa may have made an inauspicious start to the Championship season, but with four wins in a row, Steve Bruce’s men are now just outside the play-off place.
Since taking the job almost a year ago, Bruce has been backed financially with the signings of players like Ahmed Elmohamady, John Terry, Neil Taylor, Glenn Whelan, Henri Lansbury, Conor Hourihane, Robert Snodgrass and Scott Hogan, but owner Tony Xia could dip back into his wallet again.

The Sun claim that manager Bruce is keen to add one more striker when the transfer window re-opens in January, with Koln hitman Jhon Cordoba understood to be on possible target for Villa.
Cordoba, 24, has endured something of a nomadic career for his age, having been on the books with Envigado, Chiapas, Queretaro, Dorados, Espanyol, Granada and Mainz before signing for Koln this past summer.
The Colombian’s move to Koln cost €16million (£14.35million) according to Kicker, and he has scored twice in ten games this season, including a stunning goal against Arsenal in the Europa League last month, where he caught David Ospina off his line with a remarkable turn and shot from 40 yards.
Villa may now be keen on Cordoba, a strong and quick centre forward, given that question marks hang over Jonathan Kodjia’s long-term future at Villa Park, and Hogan has yet to really live up to his price tag since signing from Brentford in January.
Yet, having paid over £14million just months ago, Koln may not be too keen to lose Cordoba, and Financial Fair Play regulations mean Villa may struggle to come up with a fee to tempt the Bundesliga side into a deal.
