Barcelona are now ready to make a move to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City after Gerard Pique announced his retirement.
That is according to SPORT, who believe Xavi now has the finances required to pursue the Portugal international, who is keen on a move to the Camp Nou.
The Spanish news outlet believe Silva wanted to join Barcelona over the summer, but the signings of Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Raphinha and others made a deal difficult to complete.
Barcelona set to bid for Manchester City star
Well, Pique earned £103,000-a-week in Catalonia, and with those wages now freed up, SPORT believe Barcelona can afford to make a serious move for Silva.
Barcelona were already set to pursue the £43m man at the end of the season, although the sudden news about Pique has seen a January swoop become a real possibility.
Silva is said to remain keen on the move, although Barcelona will have to convince Pep Guardiola to part with a key player during the middle of the season, which looks set to be the major sticking point.

The 28-year-old has made ten starts in the Premier League this term, scoring two goals while also providing five assists.
SPORT add that Xavi will soon hold a meeting with the recruitment team to discuss a move for the Manchester City No.20 in January.
Barcelona should leave Bernardo Silva at Manchester City
As talented as the Portuguese playmaker is, Barcelona must invest their money in other areas.
Specifically, the backline does not have enough quality depth. Eric Garcia has struggled, while a replacement is needed for Pique in the centre-back department.
Marcos Alonso can also be upgraded on, as can Hector Bellerin and Sergi Roberto at right-back.
Of course, it would be nice to have Silva at the Camp Nou, but Barcelona must focus on their problem positions.
