Report: After Newcastle talks, £400k-a-week PIF target offered to Mourinho

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle may now have a problem on their hands in their pursuit of Aaron Ramsey.

Well, Newcastle could lose out on Ramsey to José Mourinho.

Calciomercato believe Juventus have offered the £400,000-a-week man to Roma, as they look to offload his enormous salary.

Interestingly, Calciomercato believe Mourinho wanted Ramsey at Tottenham during his time in charge of Spurs.

In that respect, the Portuguese coach could be tempted.

That doesn’t bode well for Newcastle. According to Juventus News 24, Ramsey has held talks with the Magpies over a move to St James’ Park.

Tuttosport believe the 69-cap Wales international is a key target for the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) and Amanda Staveley.

If that is true, then Newcastle will surely be concerned about Mourinho’s involvement in the situation.

In our view, Ramsey is the ideal profile for what Newcastle need in the January transfer window.

An attacking midfielder who can bring some much-needed creativity to the Toon Army is certainly required.

They must, ideally, also have Premier League experience, as the Magpies can’t afford to wait for players to settle.

Someone like Ramsey, or ex-Liverpool maestro Philippe Coutinho, would be an ideal fit for that hole in Eddie Howe’s squad.

Mourinho sounds like a fan of the 30-year-old, so it’s now up to the Magpies to fight for Ramsey, and ensure he doesn’t slip through their fingers.

If PIF are as desperate to sign him as Tuttosport claim they are, it will be interesting to see how this situation develops in January.
