According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur want to bring in another young forward in 2018 – and have identified Schalke’s Breel Embolo as a prime target.

Spurs brought in one new striker over the summer, landing target man Fernando Llorente from Swansea City on the final day of the transfer window, before Vincent Janssen headed out to Fenerbahce on loan.

Mauricio Pochettino was striving to add another option outside of Harry Kane in the Spurs attack, but Llorente has yet to find the net for Tottenham, with the Spaniard yet to offer a ‘Plan B’.

Now, The Mirror report that Spurs are hoping to land another young striker in 2018, with Schalke forward Breel Embolo believed to be on Tottenham’s radar once again.

The Swiss forward, 20, emerged as one of the world’s top young talents with Basel, where 31 goals in 91 games earned him a summer 2016 move to Schalke, where he was expected to kick on and become a star.

However, disaster struck for the youngster in October 2016, as he suffered a major ankle injury ruling him out for the rest of the season, and he has started just once this season as he continues to fight back from injury.

Reports of Tottenham’s interest, with Embolo still yet to really hit major heights since joining Schalke, may be something of a surprise, but The Telegraph reported in the summer of 2016 that Spurs wanted to lure him to North London – and 18 months on, Pochettino may be lining up another attempt.

With pace and the ability to play out wide or up front, Embolo could be a versatile attacking threat for Spurs, but they must decide whether to gamble on bidding for him in January, or biding their time and evaluating his fitness situation in the summer.
