Manchester City are reportedly ‘confident’ that Bernardo Silva will sign a new contract with the club after James McAtee penned a fresh deal with the club.
According to the Times, the Premier League leaders have held positive talks with the Portuguese international over a new contract, with Silva one of City’s best-performing players this season.
The midfielder wanted to leave City in the summer and interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Arsenal was there. However, Silva remained in Manchester and has since re-established himself as one of the Premier League’s best players.
Whilst Silva’s current contract expires in 2025, the club want to offer the playmaker a new deal to reflect his impact on the team. The Portuguese superstar has bagged eight goals and two assists in all competitions as City sit pretty at the top of the league.
Indeed, Silva could be the second City player to sign a new contract this month. The club announced on Wednesday that McAtee had finally agreed to new terms with the Manchester giants, with the teenager eyed by Premier League sides with his deal set to expire in 2023.
With Silva likely to sign a new contract, City will have the majority of the club core penned to fresh terms, with Ruben Dias and Ederson Moraes all agreeing to extend their stays in Manchester this season.
Silva deserves a new contract after resurrecting City career

Not many fans would have predicted Silva to be in the position he is now at the start of the season, with the former AS Monaco star angling for a move away from Manchester and in search of a new home.
However, fast-forward to now, and it’s hard to think of another City player who deserves a new contract more than Silva, who has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season and a shining light in what could be a huge year for the Manchester side.
