According to Pedro Sepulveda, Vitória de Guimarães gem Andre Almeida is keen to join Wolves after talks were held.
What’s the story?
Well, Sepulveda – one of the best journalists in Portuguese football – believes the 22-year-old is hoping to move to Molineux before the August 31st deadline.
However, Almeida is also open to joining Porto.
Sepulveda believes Wolves and Porto are reluctant to meet the asking price set by Vitória de Guimarães, which is said to be £9m.
The Portugal Under-21 international has already entered the final 12 months of his contract, ahead of free agency in July 2023.
Therefore, Wolves and Porto clearly feel that they would be overpaying by spending £9m on Almeida due to his contract situation.
In our view, there are no doubts that the Vitória de Guimarães No.70’s ability is worth £9m, but the fact he could soon be signed for free is delaying a move to England, which you can understand.
It comes after some sources claimed that Wolves held talks with Vitória de Guimarães over a deal for Almeida, and as you can see, the transfer saga is still far from settled.
Wolves should wait for Andre Almeida
In our view, Wolves do not need to spend £9m on Almeida now.
Instead, Bruno Lage should attempt to strike a verbal agreement with the midfielder now, ahead of a free transfer in 2023 – with the player keen on a move to Molineux, that could be quite straightforward.

Wolves aren’t exactly desperate for Almeida, having just completed the club-record signing of Matheus Nunes in a deal worth £38m, while also managing to keep hold of Ruben Neves.
Lage also has Morgan Gibbs-White, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker, so the midfield department is looking quite healthy.
Keep an eye on this situation, as Wolves still face the threat of losing out on Almeida to Porto.
